2025International Craft Forum

「真正的幸福在於對日常生活的每一個細節都產生真誠的興趣。」
“The true secret of happiness lies in taking a genuine interest in all the details of daily life.”

-- William Morris (A leading figure in the British Arts and Crafts Movement)

In the context of rapid development in contemporary society, we often overlook the details and textures of everyday life. Craft, however, serves as a vital pathway for us to return to the essence of living and rediscover the aesthetics of life. This idea is beautifully encapsulated in the words of William Morris, who revealed the profound connection between craft and life, and highlighted the core spirit of the "Slow Craft" movement.

The value of craft lies not only in the display of skill but also in the cultural significance it carries and its deep interpretation of life's details. Slow Craft advocates for a way of living that is Slow, Smart, and Simple, while embracing the concepts of Health, Aesthetics, and Sustainability. Through the journey of understanding craft, we can once again appreciate the beauty and meaning it brings to our lives.

This international forum, themed "Craft SLOHAS," will explore how craft embodies the values of "slow living" in everyday life, creating greater possibilities through the accumulation of time and the application of wisdom. By sharing case studies, craft cultures, and life stories from different countries, we aim to deepen our understanding of the connection between craft and daily life. Through this journey, participants will not only discover the beauty of craftsmanship but also experience the profound attention to life's details, allowing for a renewed appreciation of the joy craft brings to our lives. The forum will feature a variety of formats, including keynote speeches, workshops, seminars, and hands-on craft exchanges. We will invite domestic and international experts, scholars, and craft practitioners to participate, fostering dialogue between craft and the philosophy of living. Through these interactions, we hope to reexamine the relationship between life and culture, and inspire the creation of a personal "art of slow living" through the beauty of craft.

Craft SLOHAS

"Craft SLOHAS" follows the "Living Craft, Crafting Life" initiative proposed for the 70th anniversary of the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI). Under the theme of "Craft 70+1," the goal is to promote "SLOHAS (Slow + LOHAS)," emphasizing the profound meaning woven from the attitudes of Slow Living (SLOW) and LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability). In SLOHAS, the "S" stands for Slow, Smart, and Simple—three elements that embody a way of experiencing life’s wisdom through simplicity and integrating craft into daily living. Through the accumulation of time, craft continues to evolve, merging with diverse temporal and cultural contexts to create rich and varied lifestyles (Lifestyle) and opportunities (Opportunity), showcasing the wisdom embedded in originality (Original)—forming the core spirit of SLOHAS living.

This life philosophy, rooted in slowness, wisdom, and simplicity, promotes Health, Aesthetics, and Sustainability, sharing the happiness of craft experiences with the public and helping to restore the soul and spirit of the land. This forms a virtuous cycle of SLOHAS Art. As the promotion of "Craft SLOHAS" progresses, it is expected to create a "ripple effect" throughout society, sparking interaction between art activities and the public.
